What actually happens to your file

This page is the only one on the site where the document has to leave your device, so it is the one place that owes you the details.

  1. 1. The file goes up, the text comes out

Our server reads the PDF and pulls out its text. A scan with no text layer gives nothing to read: run it through OCR first.

  2. 2. The text goes to the model, not the file

What travels to the language model is the extracted text, trimmed to the part your question needs, and the provider sits outside the European Economic Area. The PDF itself is not forwarded.

  3. 3. What we keep, and what we cannot promise

The file is deleted from our server as soon as its text has been extracted. The extracted text stays only for your conversation and expires within the hour, and we never keep it or use it to train anything. What DeepSeek does with the text it receives is governed by their own terms, not by our word. So: do not send a document you would mind a third party reading.

Why there is a daily limit

Every answer is billed to us per query, which is the only reason for the ceiling: three questions without an account, five with a free one. There is no paid tier that lifts it, and there is no plan to add one.

The other two AI tools, and where they run

Summarise with citations works the same way and needs a server. Translate a PDF is different: it extracts and rebuilds the document inside your browser and only the segments of text go out, behind a consent gate that tells you the provider before anything moves.
